Tropical Agriculture Research and Training Station (TARTS) is a non-profit organization (NGO), located in the East Region of Cameroon, dedicated to bringing fronteir regenerative agricultural practices to rural small-holder farmers.
The East has incredible cultural, ecological, and geogrpahic diversity. However, the primary economy is centered around logging, mining, and resource extraction. Most of the local subsistence farmers grow cocoa, tobacco, manioc, plantain, and coffee.
We are positioned and dedicated to make an impact and find ecologically friendly solutions. We work with private industry, international organizations, government entities, foundations, and private donors to open up opportunities for local farmers.
We are disciplined in our approach to employing evidence based research, translating it into a context accessible to local farmers. We are dedicated to finding sustainable solutions to our biggest problems.
TARTS mobilizes regenerative agriculture as a catalyst for ecological restoration, economic opportunity, and food sovereignty. We integrate rigorous field research, soil biology insights, agroecological design, and hands-on training to equip farmers, students, and community partners with the knowledge, tools, and networks to revitalize their lands, diversify livelihoods, and steward their ecosystems for future generations. We are rooted in place — responding to the specific challenges of Cameroon’s East Region — while contributing scalable solutions for tropical agriculture globally..
We envision a future where degraded soils are alive with biodiversity, where rural communities lead their own agricultural transformation, and where regenerative science and farmer wisdom converge to create resilient food systems across Cameroon and beyond. Through equitable partnerships, inclusive training, and locally grounded research, TARTS aims to be a regional hub of innovation — inspiring sustainable livelihoods, climate-adaptive landscapes, and economic dignity for smallholder farmers.

Our Research
TARTS is the primary site where we conduct the majority of our activities. It's our home base for demonstrating the various practices we employ. It serves as our model farm, proving the theory and concepts that define our mission. From here, we have significant capacity to host university students, local farmers, as we disseminate our findings.
Officially we have divided the research station into four disciplines
We have invested in our on-site capabilities & resources to include:
Though our focus remains on regenerative agriculture, we complete projects that benefit all aspects of the community. Like any healthy ecosystem, all domains are interdependent and interwoven with eachother. In addition to our research and agricultural projects, we have completed dozens of projects with women groups, primary schools, small businesses, water and sanitation projects, and many other sectors.
